ING Georgia Marathon A New Southern Tradition

The ING Georgia Marathon was a smash hit in its debut this past spring. The race drew over 4,300 marathoners to Atlanta.

The 2008 version plans to be more of the same. The race, which will be held on March 30, will continue to feature a challenging - and sometimes hilly - course which starts in the heart of Atlanta in Centennial Olympic Park and takes runners on a tour of historic Atlanta and nearby Decatur.

One downfall of last year's race was the near record high temperatures, which reached 86 degrees. The average in Atlanta for late March is around 69 degrees, so it was unseasonably warm.

There is also a half marathon which is held on the same day as the full marathon. Both races start at the same time (7 a.m.) and location (Peachtree Street). The pre-race staging area is also at Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta.
